a short list names asked to be first. None of them bought a token here. They asked for the product.

Pale Fire — A routing layer in front of payment firms that already hold licences. One API picks the rail (SEPA, cards, local schemes) and can present a wallet-like checkout. The wallet is the interface. It is not a coin.

In a 14-day diligence sprint (day 3). This is when the story, the customers and the legal path get written down — or the file stops.

The named customer already picked. The waitlist is everyone who was late to that fact.

Diligence, not a prospectus. RCA Pad does not allocate, take orders, or close funding. If this company raises, it raises with its own counsel.

The wedge

Per-transaction routing fee

The wedge is scheme sprawl: every new local rail is a new integration the PSP does not want to own.

Why the desk took it

A real job, not a ticker.

They walked in with a licensed PSP letter, not a token deck.

Traction

One named pilot (redacted).

Founded 2022, headquartered in Lisbon. One named pilot on file (redacted in public). 6 nodes or connected surfaces reported. Desk diligence score 75/100. Sprint day 3 of 14. A named Lisbon administrator who already signs the pack (redacted). They killed their own ‘token as fee’ sentence before we asked. Rare, and it scored.

Next 12 months

Live routing in one named scheme. Everything else is a slide.

Checkout.com is a processor. This is plumbing for processors. Bps on a job that already has a budget line. A public coin would not make the invoice larger.

The brief

How a serious reader should hold this.

Before the waitlist, before the window, there was a refusal. Pale Fire would not let a public sale sit on this page. That is why a company in Payments orchestration is listed here at all — and why the people who wanted a coin left, and the people who wanted the product stayed.

If you leave this page without opening the claims table, you have read marketing. The scarce version of Pale Fire is the version that survives counsel. It is on a clock.

On a Tuesday in Lisbon, an exception posts back into the customer’s existing case system. Nobody opens a side spreadsheet. That is the product: the night someone in ops does not stay late.

From the founder

A dual-control drill exists on paper. Production evidence is the next artefact, not a tweet.

From the pilot

The legal source of truth stays with the incumbent register, admin, or custodian. Pale Fire does not attest to its own facts.

From counsel

Fixed fee. Deposit to start. 0% of proceeds. Token-only pay is declined. Percentage of raise is declined.

The window

Miss this and you read the archive.

A later reader gets the same PDF. They do not get the same access.

Certification is in motion. After it lands, the price of the seat is not the question — access is.

The scarce thing is not the company. It is the next 9 days of a live conversation.

The bet

Why this company exists.

The wedge is scheme sprawl: every new local rail is a new integration the PSP does not want to own.

The wedge is scheme sprawl: every new local rail is a new integration the PSP does not want to own.

MiCA is forcing PSPs to choose a perimeter. Houses that will not become CASPs still need programmable checkout. The ones that pick software over a coin will buy this. The ones that want a token will be declined here.

PSP orchestration in Europe is a multi-billion software market. Buyers already pay for routing. A token would not make the invoice larger; it would make the licence harder.

Versus the field

The incumbent brand sells the relationship. Pale Fire sells the job the brand will not staff. A protocol pitch is the thing this company has already refused. Open-source looks free until the auditor asks who attests.

Lisbon being the city does not make local retail a default audience. Communications capable of inducing investment activity still have a promotions problem.

How it works

  1. 01Payer or merchant hits a single checkout API
  2. 02The router selects a licensed rail the PSP already runs
  3. 03Account-abstraction is an optional UX layer (currently testnet)
  4. 04Settlement lands in the PSP’s existing accounts — no new token
  5. 05Exceptions (chargebacks, scheme rejects) post back into the PSP’s existing case system
  6. 06The legal source of truth stays with the incumbent register, admin, or custodian.

  1. SatDarkNo creators. No threads. Restricted geos stay dark.
  2. MonClaimsEvery public sentence checked against the register. Anything extra is unpublished.
  3. TueExceptionsOvernight breaks post back into the customer’s case system. No side book.

The wedge

Why this one, not the other one.

They sell
Per-transaction routing fee
Who pays
A named Lisbon administrator who already signs the pack (redacted).
Unit economics
Bps on a job that already has a budget line. A public coin would not make the invoice larger.
Moat on file
Scheme certifications already in motion with two processors.
Switching cost
Network effects only if a second named counterparty writes. One customer is a service firm.
Vs the comps
Checkout.com is a processor. This is plumbing for processors.
Why we listed it
They walked in with a licensed PSP letter, not a token deck.

Next twelve months

What has to be true.

Live routing in one named scheme. Everything else is a slide.

They killed their own ‘token as fee’ sentence before we asked. Rare, and it scored.

If they raise, it is to hire the remaining certifications and the second market — not to float a coin.

Risks

What can kill it.

The one that actually kills it

Counsel is a slide

Unnamed counsel is how companies die in diligence. Not offering — locked has to be a memo you can file, not a slogan on the hero.

Token temptation

If the wallet layer is ever described as a means of payment, the product becomes an e-money or CASP problem. This file treats that as a hard stop.

Perimeter

A supervisor can still read account-abstraction as issuing. Until counsel names the path, treat the AA layer as a lab.

Customer concentration

A handful of PSP design partners can stall the company if they slip. Ask who is paying, not who is ‘interested’.

United States

The US is out of scope on this file. That is deliberate. It also caps the TAM.

Scheme freeze

A card scheme can kill the router without talking to Pale Fire. Concentration in one scheme is existential.

Incumbent feature

The administrator, CCP, scheme or custodian can ship this as a checkbox. Pale Fire has to be cheaper or faster before that happens.

Ask these next

  1. 01What does renewal look like if no round ever happens?
  2. 02Who can unpublish a public sentence in 24 hours, by name?
  3. 03If RCA Pad disappeared tomorrow, could the customer still run the job?
  4. 04Who is the first named paying customer — not a letter of intent?
  5. 05Which geography is actually locked, and which is a hope?
  6. 06Has counsel written the perimeter in a memo you can file?

Structure

How money would actually move.

Sprint is diligence, not a raise. A pack at the end is a file the company can take to its own lawyers and investors. RCA Pad does not complete funding.

Who can decide

The technical founder is on the record as Finance. Contractors in undisclosed jurisdictions are written down as a fact, not hidden. Facts can be managed. Hiding them is how companies die in diligence.

Year two is a second named market and the remaining certifications — still permissioned. It is not a public book. A public book would be a different company.

This is not a sale page.
