A claims register that can survive scrutiny · Failure

How a claim dies, and what the blotter is for

A live row is a promise to keep watching the artefact.

Evidence moves. Engagement letters expire. Testnets halt. Counsel changes a formulation. A partner asks to be described differently. A live claim that is not re-checked is a claim you no longer have. The date field is not a birth certificate. It is a reminder to look again.

When the artefact moves, the row is withdrawn or rewritten. Rewriting is a new date, a new permitted sentence, a new archive. We do not silently edit a live row so that history agrees with us. Change history exists because counterparties, and sometimes courts, care what you said last month. The archive is how you show it.

Incidents have three kinds on this desk: claim, creator, channel. A claim incident is an unsourced or drifted sentence. A creator incident is a roster failure — disclosure missing, geography ignored, prohibited wording used. A channel incident is a surface that published without the register: a surprise landing page, a community bot, a partner’s newsletter using your nouns. The response is the same shape. Pause. Pull. Notify. Archive. Record.

Severity is not a debate about feelings. If a prohibited word ran in a market you have excluded, you do not “monitor the thread.” You take it down against the SLA you locked at kick-off. On this desk the default is a forty-eight-hour response on claims and a twenty-four-hour takedown. If you cannot staff that, you should not be running creators.

Teams ask whether a withdrawn claim can be “reframed.” Sometimes. “Independent review in progress” can become “independent review complete” when the letter says so. It cannot become “audited, battle-tested, used by institutions worldwide” because the team is excited. Excitement is not evidence. If you want a bigger sentence, get a bigger artefact.
