Budget, approvers, and the kill switch
A campaign without a stopper is a campaign that will be stopped by someone else.
Budget is a field because folklore funding produces folklore work. A Sprint is £3,500–£7,500, deposit to open the desk. A Build is £10,000–£35,000. A retainer is prepaid. Token-only pay is declined. Percentage of raise is declined. If the only way the team can pay is in the instrument they have not been cleared to offer, they do not have a launch budget. They have a circular hope.
Approvers are named humans. Founder. Counsel. Controls lead. Forty-eight hours to respond on claims. Twenty-four hours to take a piece down. If the only approver is “the DAO” or a multi-sig that takes a week to move a sentence, you do not have an SLA. You have a forum.
The kill switch is the last field and the one teams skip. Who can unpublish the site section. Who can pin a correction. Who can force a creator to delete, and what the contract says if they will not. Who can freeze a bot that has started answering “how do I buy?” If those people are not on a roster with a phone number, the campaign cannot be regulated in any practical sense. Regulation, as an operating posture, includes the ability to stop.
Kill switch, channel by channel
- 01Site: who has production access, including the agency that shipped at 1 a.m.
- 02Social: who holds the handles. Not a contractor’s personal 2FA.
- 03Creators: takedown clause, jurisdiction limits, archive of what ran.
- 04Support: scripts for “can I buy?” that do not improvise a path.
- 05Partners: a logged intro can be a promotion. Treat it as one.
